I bought a new 'Mounted Black Polymer Film-Full Aperture Solar Filter by Thousand Oaks', this is my first image, quite a change from my old white light filter.

It is a merge of two half images from my 8" scope.  I wished there had been a couple of Sunspots so I could compare the detail with my old white light filter.  My old white light filter always gave me a lot of detail around the Sunspots.  The only problem with the white light filter, I had to add the color to make it look like the Thousand Oak Filter.

Looks like I'm going to need a lot of practice getting the exposures correct for the up and coming 2017 Solar Eclipse.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Ron

Great looking image Ron. Exposure looks pretty good to me.
Check out SpaceWeather.com each day for sunspot activity. They have an image on the left-hand side that's updated every couple hours.

Thanks Greg

I'm still trying to decide which method I want to shoot the eclipse, prime focus, afocal, or by my first method of shooting through "Ron's Solar Imager".

This image is afocal with my old Nikon CP995 camera and 40mm lens.

The problem shooting prime is I can only shoot half of an image and merge 2 halves together.  The problem with my afocal is that it leaves a halo around the Sun.  I can get rid of the halo but I would loose any detail like the diamond if I was able to capture it. :(
